No, you didn’t read that wrong but it doesn’t quite mean that we’re setting a course back eastwards either.

A number of months ago I (Jess) was approached by the lovely folks at the RCCPF (the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation) working with Imray (the publisher Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson) about one of their existing titles.

“South Pacific Anchorages” by Warwick Clay first came out in 1996 and was last updated in 2001. We use hard copy print cruising guides all the time on board but it’s easy to see how information and image reproductions can quickly get outdated. So much so that when we first sailed into the waters of the Pacific we weren’t using this guide for reference at all and nor was anybody else in our cruising fleet.

But now the title is being redesigned and rewritten and, on the back of my years of sailing magazine writing work, they asked me to take over authorship.

It’s an exciting project and one that I’m enjoying tackling. I’ll be working on it for the next 6 months from the rather distant cruising grounds of Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia (Bali, Lombok, Komodo etc) and as well as all the writing I’ll also be sourcing all the imagery (including some of our own) and directing all the charts and cartography. I’m also planning on adding satellite photos to aid navigation.

I can’t wait to get my teeth into it more but I can already tell that just the research needed alone is giving me a pull back along our gps tracks, and making me yearn for some of the times we spent in those fascinating South Pacific countries.

Watch this space for more news on that front.
